OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma is at the top of the list for the state with the number of women experiencing domestic abuse.

The Sooner State rose to No. 2 on the list after being ranked No. 8 for the number of women killed by men during domestic violence episodes according the YWCA.

The YWCA told KOCO 5 that a recent study by the World Population Review showed that 49.1% of Oklahoma women have been or are currently being victimized by domestic abuse.

KOCO 5 has recently covered several stories about domestic-related killings. Most recently, a man killed a woman and three children before turning the gun on himself late Wednesday night at an Oklahoma City home.

KOCO 5 hosted a roundtable of law enforcement, lawmakers and domestic violence advocates to discuss this epidemic of family violence and what we can do about it.

Anyone who needs help is urged to call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-522-SAFE.
