OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma City residents voted in favor of the MAPS 4 proposal Tuesday, approving a plan that would raise over $978 million over the next eight years for various city projects.
“OKC voters approved the sales tax fund #MAPS4 in Tuesday’s special election, moving forward with a unique and ambitious plan to transform our community,” city officials tweeted.
With all precincts reporting, the MAPS 4 proposition received 71.7% of the vote with a total of 31,865 Oklahoma City residents casting their ballot in favor of the measure.
“I cannot thank the voters of Oklahoma City enough for this amazing trust that you’ve put in the city,” Mayor David Holt said in a video posted to social media. “We will now go forward and implement this MAPS 4 plan and continue this city’s renaissance.”
The money raised during that eight-year time frame will fund 16 projects, which include parks, youth and senior centers, mental health addiction, infrastructure and homelessness.
About 70% of the funds will be dedicated to neighborhood and human needs.
