You may have seen the statistics: Oklahoma ranks third in the nation for women killed by men, according to the Violence Policy Center’s analysis of 2018 homicide data. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, 49.1% of Oklahoma women and 40.7% of Oklahoma men will experience intimate partner violence, intimate partner rape and/or intimate partner stalking in their lifetimes.

If you’re wondering what you can do, read through our list of eight ways to help victims in our community below.

Palomar offers many services that allow community members to get involved. From assisting staff in the office to sitting with clients to support them, there are unlimited opportunities for volunteers. Attorney or chaplain? Volunteer with the Spiritual Care Program or the Palomar Legal Network.

The Oklahoma Humane Society and Palomar have partnered to create The Animal Advocacy Program to help victims fleeing domestic violence with pets. The commitment for fostering with The Animal Advocacy Program is two months, but can sometimes be longer. All necessary supplies are provided.

Organize your group (school, church, business) and plan a donation drive for things like food, books, or gift cards. We are always looking for new and gently used books for kids and adults, as well as new personal care items. We welcome fresh fruit, non-perishables, and frozen foods.

Shop at smile.amazon.com and select Palomar as your charity. Amazon will donate a percentage of every purchase you make! If you use Google Chrome, you can add the Smilematic extension, which automatically redirects you to Amazon Smile when you shop on Amazon.

Choose from a selection of items to order from Amazon and send directly to our Children’s Sanctuary.

Order exactly what our Animal Advocacy Program needs to care for the pets of victims and send them directly to the Program.

In lieu of birthday gifts, ask your Facebook friends to donate to a fundraiser you set up to benefit our clients.

Purchase art prints from our Symbols of Hope contest, Palomar merch, or our self-care workbook. All proceeds go directly to providing emergency services to our clients and their children.
