OKLAHOMA CITY — VOICES OKC will host its second annual Testimony Trail, “Illuminating to Live,” Oct. 14 at Scissortail Park in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Programming will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the South Garden Trellis on the southeast side of the park between Union Station and South Robinson Avenue. A candlelight walk will begin at 7 p.m.
During the event, VOICES OKC members will place 87 pairs of shoes around the garden trellis. The shoes represent domestic violence-related homicides documented in the most recent year of data provided by the Domestic Violence Fatality Review Board report in 2024.
Survivors also will share stories of survival before participants light candles and begin a candlelight walk across the purple-lit SkyDance Bridge.
The Testimony Trail is intended to honor people who have died as a result of domestic violence while recognizing the strength and resilience of survivors.
“The Testimony Trail is about more than telling stories. It’s about giving survivors a space to be heard and reminding our community that domestic violence affects real people, real families, and real lives,” said Natalie Seiden, a VOICES OKC member.
Seiden said the event is intended to bring survivors’ experiences into public view while honoring their healing and lives beyond domestic violence.
“When the many facets of our community come together, we create a network of support, help, and hope that can make a real difference,” Seiden said. “We’re not just remembering what happened. We’re illuminating the path forward, together.”
The free event is open to the public, and registration is not required.
