OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma City residents came together at Classen Curve, Nichols Hills Plaza and Triangle to perform 250 acts of service supporting local nonprofits as part of a national movement celebrating America’s 250th birthday.
Bailey Fortenbaugh, marketing manager for the event, said, “The whole goal is to accumulate 250 acts of service from our community to support these nonprofits and give back.”
Throughout the afternoon, participants engaged in various acts of kindness, including filling a family’s pantry, helping pets in need, supporting children during difficult times, and aiding survivors of domestic abuse.
“There are people who need us. Oklahomans in need. Whether it’s to put food on the table, or our fluffy neighbors with cats and dogs out here. So, when we can, giving back is really important and paying it forward,” Fortenbaugh said.
Palomar, a nonprofit organization focused on supporting survivors of domestic abuse, joined the event to raise awareness about its mission.
“We also just want to raise awareness that Palomar exists, survivors exist, that there’s a mission that exists in our city and building as many hands as possible, even if that’s just knowing about us,” said Vasilia Boyaci, engagement assistant at Palomar.
Boyaci also highlighted the importance of community support, saying, “Just feeling that support and empathy from the whole community because community is one of the biggest things we want survivors to feel.”
The event encouraged attendees to give what they could, emphasizing the impact of collective kindness in supporting those in need.
