Animal Advocacy Program

Palomar partners with the Oklahoma Humane Society to offer the Animal Advocacy Program, which supports survivors of domestic violence who have pets. This program helps reduce barriers to safety by offering support and resources related to pets.

An Animal Advocate may be available on-site to help explore options for your pets while you focus on getting to a safe place. Availability of services and advocate support may vary based on funding and capacity.

Escaping Domestic Violence with Pets in OKC

Concern about their four-legged family members often keeps victims in abusive and dangerous situations. With over 36,000 domestic violence 911 calls annually in Oklahoma City alone, that’s a lot of pets in potentially dangerous situations.

 

Services for Pets

We have partnered with the Oklahoma Humane Society to create the Animal Advocacy Program to assist survivors of domestic violence with their animals. We have an Animal Advocate on-site who can help care for your companion animals while you focus on getting yourself to a safe place.

Services provided by the Program may include:

  • Temporary foster placement for pets
  • Pet pantry supplies
  • Veterinary care resources
  • Pet safety planning assistance
  • Help with pet-related security deposits

The commitment for fostering with The Animal Advocacy Program is 2 months, but can sometimes be longer.  If you have additional questions, please email [email protected].

Donate to the Program

We are also always in need of the following:

  • Dog Crates (L/XL Priority)
  • Cat Carriers
  • Leashes (L/XL Priority)
  • Harnesses (L/XL Priority)
  • Collars (L/XL Priority)
  • Litter/Boxes/Scoops
  • Dog Toys
  • Bowls
  • Beds/Blankets

Donations can be dropped off at Palomar located on 1140 N. Hudson Ave. during Palomar’s business hours.
